# How to Connect UltraTax to Filed

## Best Practice: Installing the Filed Sync App

The Filed Sync App functions optimally on an always-on machine to prevent syncing interruptions, though it can be installed on multiple workstations. Note that restarts, logouts, or offline periods may require reopening and re-authentication of the app.

## Connection Steps

### Initial Connection

1. Log into your Filed account
2. Navigate to **Connect > Tax Software** in the left panel
3. Locate UltraTax and select **Connect**
4. Review details and confirm the connection

After initial connection, you must establish a live sync by clicking **Set up Filed App**.

> **Important:** If you have Virtual Office access or are unable to download the app, skip the Filed App download and proceed directly to the client export steps below.

### Download and Set Up the Filed App

1. Click **Download** and run the Filed App setup
2. Enter the Connection ID and Password visible in your Filed account
3. Select your UltraTax folder containing client documents
4. Click **Activate Connection**

### Export Client List from UltraTax

1. Log into UltraTax
2. Access **Utilities > Client Listing Report**
3. Maintain default settings (General Client Information & Client ID)
4. Select all 1040 clients for Filed
5. Click **Export**

### Upload Client List to Filed

1. Return to your Filed account
2. Upload the exported file through the designated upload area
3. Click **Configure** to finalize the connection
4. Verify **Connected** status appears for UltraTax in the Integrations tab

## Ongoing Maintenance

When adding new clients to UltraTax, you must re-upload the updated client list to keep Filed current.
